My wonderful toddler was caught on my computer a few days ago and since then, the screen has been, well, messed up. It is positioned to the left with an inch of black space down the right side. I am not a computer person, so I really don't know how to fix what he messed up. I have a COMPAQ Presario that runs Windows XP. I would really like my original screen back, so if anybody knows how to do this, please please please please help! Thanks!!!!!

this sounds more like a screen configuration problem and not a operating system fault(windows xp) i think your budding computer technician has twiddled with buttons concerning screen options ie:coulor ,brightness and so on .look closely for something that might say vertical or horizontal hold(similar to tv)and slowly move the button or twist it ,the screen picture should move left to right and up and down..or press and hold these buttons.until desired position of the picture or page/desktop pic is acheived..

1st try the settings located on your monitor. Maybe he got the screen out of alignment. If that does not fix it, then do a system restore on your computer. Go to :
Start
all programs
accessories
system tools
then look for system restore
this program will walk you through the steps. just set your pc back to a date prior to the day he messed it up. Hopefully this will correct your problem.

Someone pressed a bunch of buttons on my keyboard one time and the screen went upside down!!
I just went into;
control panel
display
settings
screen resolution
and it fixed my screen. hope that helps or works!
my sister had the same problem as you and i just played with the buttons on the monitor and did above and i got her screen back to normal.

well u should have adjustments on the screen itself, look under the front of the monitor for dials and or buttons these adjust the horizontal and vertical positions of the screen, there are prolly more then just them on it too so watch what yur moving and adjusting, or like on mine (gateway) there is a dial on the front you push on and it brings a box up for options sounds to me like you lil one may have turned these some how but u need to adjust yur horizontal back

You need to adjust the settings on the monitor. It may have a reset option, depending on the monitor.

Try system restore. This should fix the problem.
Look in Control panel or My Comruter on your desktop.

your toddler discovered the screen adjustment buttons on the monitor. use these buttons to readjust the screen to its original state. thats all you have to do.

sounds like he was playing with the monitor buttons :-\, play with the buttons some more and find the reset option :D
