I have been lactating for 3 weeks, my breast are killing me, and my appetite has picked up. I had a blood test done to see if I'm pregnant, it came back negative...could it be wrong?

I'm no doctor, but I am on my second pregnancy. There is a chance that it could be wrong. Those definitely sound like pregnancy symptoms. The lactating thing is wierd, because I've never started lactating until after the baby was born. But I've heard it happens. You could've been too early to tell. Before you go back to the doctor and swear that they need to give you another test, go buy a home pregnancy test. My doctor told me that they are actually very reliable. If someone comes in and says their home test came up positive, he pretty much assumes that they are pregnant before the clinic test results even come back. What they do when they do a blood test to check for pregnancy is they look for certain hormone levels to be rising above the normal amount. These hormone levels are supposed to double every 48 hours. If you've only been feeling this way for three weeks, it may have been a bit early to tell yet. Other symptoms you should be looking for are nausea with or without vomiting, confusion, fatigue, or lower back pain. You may still not be pregnant, but there IS something going on with your body and you'll need to get checked out either way. Women's health is noting to take lightly. And if you are pregnant, congratulations in advance!

HHHMMMM>>>Even if you were pregnant, you shouldn't be lactating...most women don't even get colostrum until at least 5-6 months along..but usually even later than that and the actual milk doesn't come in until a few days after baby is born. You need to see your doc asap. Sore boobs and leakage of fluid while not pregnant can be something much more serious...like cancer.
Blood tests can be wrong but usually only if the hormone level is too low to detect which may indicate a non-viable pregnancy.

When you're pregnant, your breasts are tender at first, but not expressing milk. The milk doesn't come in until after the baby is born. If the blood test said negative, then chances you are not pregnant is highly. It is the most accurate test, it test the hormone chemicals, and looks for the pregnancy hormone. Every test has a percentage that it could be wrong. I would talk to your doctor about the symptoms that is occuring.

No -- in the first place, the blood test is hardly ever wrong. In the second place, women start lactating in their third trimester....not sure what to make of your symptoms, but they aren't pregnancy symptoms.
Leakage from the breasts can be a sign that there is something wrong -- make sure to see your doctor and tell them about this.

Yes. The first one I got done was borderline. Then I finally got a positive. You could have been tested to early or you could not have very much of the hormone. Ask your doctor to do a quantitative HCG test. That would tell you if your levels are going up. Good luck

Probably not. What did your doctor say about your symptoms? Would you be willing to pay out of pocket for a sonogram just to be sure? If so, call your doctor and request one. It might be a tad expensive, but it would be very good proof!

my co-worker thought she was pregnat for months but the doctors kept telling her no, all the test they did showed up negative. then they thought they found a lump and told her to fear for the worst... shortly after that they took an ultrasound and found out she was 6 months preg.
