If it's a flat door, it is probably hollow core (wood panels either side, airspace between).
If you are not the handyman type with available tools, patching compound and paint, the best bet is a replacement.
If it is a stained rather than a painted door, it's a no brain-er >> Replace.
Patching, if not done carefully, will leave a shadow of the hole, and a vulnerability of the same hole revisiting the door.
Not your door OR mom & dad will kill you if they find out you put a hole in door . . .
Quick and dirty fix for a painted door:
Cut out cardboard piece larger than hole which you can squeeze in hole. Crumple newspaper, filling hole so there is some resistance toward hole. Squeeze in cardboard against this resistance to give you a flat surface at the hole.
Place a thin layer of patching compound -- let dry. Then, more patching compound to finish surface to door's finish.
Sand patch to assure patch and door appear integrated.
Paint the door -- or at least a large enough portion that it doesn't draw your eye to the patch.
Good Luck

RE:
How do you patch a hole in an interior door?
It is a flat interior bedroom door--the hole is about the size of the door handle. Thanks for any help!

If the door is stained (as oposed to painted) then I would buy a new door becuase it will never look perfect.
If its a painted door you can patch the hole with plaster or wood filler, wait for it to dry, sand it down with 200 grit sandpaper, prime the spot with an oil primer, and paint.
If the door is stained, I would recommend changing the door. But if you dont want to, fill the hole with a stainable wood filler (go to your local paint store). Wait for it to dry, sand it down, and re-stain it. You will probably need to put a coat of polyurethane or 2 on the door once your done as most stained woodwork is protected with polyurethane

Chances are its a hollow core door. Best to replace entire door. $30.00-$40 at home depot. You'll never fill the hole properly and after painting you'll always see the patch job.

Hello, stop at Lowes or HomeDepot and ask a sales person working in the paint dept. They have patch repair kits to help you fix this. Good luck and Happy Holidays

Stuff with wadded up newspaper, then put a couple of coats of drywall patch. Then paint. That will take you longer than replacing it though.

if it is a hollow core dore, it's easiest to just replace it. they're pretty inexpensive, and you can transfer over the old hardware easily.

Just replace the door, that would be the easiest thing to do.
