Will the fluid somehow harm the baby? Besides me getting a bladder infection ( and i shouldnt really cuz i mostly drink water all day long) what else could holding it do to my baby? I hope the fluid isnt toxic enough to hurt the baby cuz i dont get a chance to get up much from my desk, and i was wondering if this could cause a potential threat to my baby. thanks for ur answers.

to the smart asses.....I Know good and goddamn well that the baby doesnt have anything to do with the bladder, Im concerned whether or not the bladder is thick/tough enough to prevent toxic leakage and what not.

You've gotten some partially correct answers so far but as a nurse and a midwife let me tell you that while holding your urine for as long as possible is uncomfortable and for most pregnant women leads to a urinary tract infection which will require medications and those will have a great effect on your unborn baby, because if they are strong enough for your adult size body they are multiplied for your baby's small body, also for several women it can cause incontinence (inability to hold your urine) later. (The later that starts the better if you ask me) Your urine is waste from the foods and drinks you consume plus wastes from your body functions but unless you hold it for days and days or have extreamely strong urine it woun't hurt the baby to hold it for a few hours... But you might want to consider taking a few extra restroom breaks... if it's a matter of getting away from your desk talk to your supervisor, I'm sure they would be sympathetic to your condition and allow you to go as much as you need to... Good luck to you and best wishes!

lol.

If the bladder wasnt thick enough to prevent toxic leakage, the fluid would leak into your abdominal cavity, not your uterus. And that would not be leakage, it would be a ruptured bladder. Which is quite a precarious situation, since the required surgery and recovery time would certainly put a reasonable amount of strain on your pregnancy. And there would surely be poor side effects from the anesthsia, medication, antibiotics, and the possbility of a surgical error resulting in damage to the uterus.

But a leaking bladder isnt something you have to worry about, your bladder is not designed to leak, its meant to hold the urine until it can be expelled naturally, unless there is an abstruction or some other damage to the tubes or the uretha, this sort of thing wouldnt happen. And its likelihood certainly wouldnt hinge on pregnancy.

hehe.

Its a cute concern. But being careful and responsible enough to relieve yourself when you feel the need is an excellent solution to your concern.

You're going to reach a point where the position of the baby and the weight of the uterus causes you to be unable to hold you urine even while doing basic things like standing up, or coughing. WHen that time comes you WILL find time to leave your desk and pee.

Bathrooms are to pregnant woman like water is to fish. Cant have one without the other. Your employer will understand.

You understand the risk of getting a UTI from holding your urine, which can have poor side effects on the baby. But pregnant woman tend to have supressed immune systems, which means a UTI can often become a very serious kidney infection, which will land you in the hospital, and risks severe damage to the baby because of fever and medication.

So, hold at your discretion.

While I am not aware that this could potentially harm the baby, it is not wise to do. The last thing you need right now is a bladder infection.

You mentioned that you cannot get up from your desk much. You do need your fluids, is it that your employer will not allow you to get up? If that is the case you should really talk to them. The father along you are the more the baby will be putting pressure on your bladder and it will take less and less fluid in the bladder to feel as if you need to urinate. I have had two babies and I my kids used to "jump" on my bladder. It was something else!

I don't know if this was much help, but don't hold it in, do what you have to do to make a bathroom break available when you NEED IT, not when it's convienent for others.

I hope you have a wonderful and healthy pregnancy.!! =0)

You already know about the risk of infection so other than that there isn't much. The urinary tract is completely sterile so if urine can pass through it, I can't think of a way urine would harm the baby, considering some of the amniotic fluid the baby is in is its own urine. Also as you get further along you run the risk of leakking everytime you sneeze or cough. Just go as much as possible.

No, it won't harm your baby, but then you're going to need to invest in some Attends, or some similiar to an adult diaper. As the baby develops, it'll take more room in your abdomen...which means less room for your bladder. Eventually you won't be able to hold it as long, especially if you cough or sneeze, and you'll have an accident in your pants. It's far better to just go use the bathroom, and get it over with. Best of luck to you.

When you hold your urine you are setting yourself up for a Urinary Tract Infection. It gets really concentrated and crystals can form making urination painful. When you get one of these infections you need antibiotics. These antibiotics can harm the baby not the urine. Your boss cannot legally not let you go to the bathroom. Your employer could be sued on the baby's injuries, should any happen, for not letting an employee go to the bathroom. Remember antibiotics are bad for the baby.

Building up pee isn't really going to hurt your baby. The concern is you getting a bladder infection. The medications they can give you are limited so you need to be extra careful.

Get up from your desk and walk around as much as possible. Even stand by your desk if you can. You need to allow your blood to circulate.

well u shouldnt try and hold your urine, even if u dont have that much of a chance to get up from your desk, you should neways. you should always want to clear your bladder. i think if u hold it long enuf and it does get backed up in the urethra and reaches ur baby, it could harm it. urine has toxins in it. i dont really know how u can hold ur urine anyways, im only 12 weeks pregant and i cant even hold it for 5 minutes.

You really should relieve yourself when at all possible. Water or not, you can cause a bladder or urinary tract infection if you continue to hold it all the time, not to mention the further along you get you run the risk of peeing on yourself if you ever sneeze, cough, or laugh suddenly!!
