A couple weeks ago, I downloaded some windows updates and I got some trojan viruses on my computer showing up right after that. Now I've gotten rid of them. However, my boyfriend had to register windows because he recently reinstalled it. When he did that, he got the same crap showing up on his computer that was on mine. I've heard that you should never let your pc download updates automatically, that you should make sure you ok it first because at one point in time, someone had hacked into the windows site and made it so when you downloaded updates, you were getting a virus at the same time. Has anyone else had this problem with windows or does anyone know about a virus coming from the site?

I think so too. I was using my work computer when I did the updating. It was taking a long time and I got suspicious. I just unplugged the Internet connection and out came the prompt to reconnect. Luckily I did not keep the password on the computer. Then I checked the 'system' information in the control panel. It had enabled the Remote Assistance. I quickly did a system restore.

No, there a no viruses on Windows Update. You got the infection elsewhere. It's possible that you were already infected and were re-directed to a phony Windows Update site where more malware was installed.
I've been using Windows since version 1.0 and have NEVER got an infected file from Microsoft.

There is one recent update that has a problem. It updates the MS firewall and disables all AV and firewalls before it starts installing. The problem is that the svchost.exe that is running the update has a buffer overrun causing it to abnormally end before it restarts them. To fix, turn off automatic update and the go to the MS website and do a custom update. This has worked for me.

No viruses come from Microsoft, however there is a thing called "Windows Genuine Advantage" it is not a trojan - might as well be though; it is a real pain in the ____. It verifies that the version of Windows on your computer is real and not pirated.

If you have a broadband internet connection you should have a firewall and anti-virus / anti-spyware installed before going anywhere on the internet. This way you won't be exposed to the readily available garbage that exists all over the internet. So before going online be sure to have all the online protection needed to surf and DL safely.
Hope this helps.
cheers,

Better to be on safeside. You may be having a virus or spyware installed on your PC. You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html

No. Even if some bloke tries to put nasty stuff into my computer, my firewall and antivirus and antispyware can block it easily.
