I think they should. I think the test for citizenship should only be given in English. Look at southern Florida and southern California. If you go to many places in these areas you have to speak Spanish to function. These immigrants show no respect to the customs and history of those of us in the USA. If people of their country had done the work and made the sacrifices to make their country better in the past like Americans have then their country’s would not be such s**t holes. They now want to come here but want to keep their culture. Well, that culture has lead to their countries being such poverty and crime ridden places that they need to move. They should at least have enough respect for a superior people and culture to try to fit into our ways.

Yes they should. If they don't want too, then let them go back to their own country.

You have to be able to read and speak English to get citizenship. It's a requirement!
I think you are getting confused with the green card, which can be obtain through family, marriage or work, and therefore you don't always have to be fluent in English.

Remember that to obtain citizenship, you have to stay 5 years legally in the US, so honestly, if you don't manage to learn English, it means the person isn't trying to be a part of society or probably doesn't work at all.
It is also proved that a lot of people who get naturalized know more about the US than the average american, because you have to know all the states and their location, as well as american history. Shocking but true.

Well, have you ever thought about it in another way? What if they don't have enough money to be taking English classes, or are too busy working in two jobs to support their family. Most immigrants come here to make more money to keep their family alive and healthy with food on the table. And most immigrants also come here to run away from a government that is corrupt, even if they wanted to change things and make things better so they wouldn't be coming here to the U.S.A, they cant because their government ignores them!!! Honey, other countries aren't like here, if they were there wouldn't be so many immigrants!! All in all it's not that they don't have respect, but the money or time!!!

haha..u said superior people and that sounds a little Hitler-like. oh well, I think anyone who comes to the U.S should speak English. I think that everyone should be welcome, but the Americans are getting the bad side of this. Few other countries accomodate as well as we do. I mean if you moved to France, the government wouldn't say, well now all the french need to learn english because we have american immigrants coming over. I don't think it's fair to make everyone learn spanish just because most of the immigrants/new citizens speak it. I think they should be learning English. I have no problem with them coming here, but I think it's bad that you can get turned down for a job because you don't speak spanish. Instead of them adapting to their new country, the country is adapting to them. I guess obviously I don't agree with having to learn Spanish just so I can talk to someone in my English speaking country.

I agree to a point. I think anyone who wishes to become a citizen of a country should learn to speak that language of that country. Language is not the same as culture though. What is so great about this country is that it is made up of people from different cultures, some of whom have been here for generations and still celebrate the culture and customs of their ancestors. Vive la difference!

Not just citizens, anyone who wants to live in this country at all should be able to speak the language. It is ridiculous when you go somewhere in your own country and cannot speak to a worker or owner of a business because they do not speak the language. If you want the USA to provide your way of living then you need to show the country some respect and learn their language, at least.

YES!!!! Without a doubt. English needs to be the only language in this country. No other country in the world does as much for no english speakers like the USA does.

They should speak in English... but also if there working with other people that are speaking the same way they are like in spanish, then i think thats ok that they talk to one another like that. If the person is spanish and they are talkin to you and if you know spanish u should talk back to them. Don't be racist about they way they talk and every thing they are just like all of us. the only difference is the way they talk and the color and thats it.

I agree. If they want to live among the English, they should speak the English language. I don't see what is so complicated about that for them to understand. It makes me sick when I'm walking around in the store and I hear stuff that's gibberish to me. They could be talking about me, for all I know! It's actually kind of scary!

I don't mind citizens not speaking English, but anyone who works in the service industry (like fast food or in retail) should definitely be very good at English in my opinion. And unfortunately, a lot of poor migrants work in those areas.
