I am 14.5 weeks pregnant and wake aup a lot of times in the night with my hips hurting and the right side of my lower back in very bad pain. Occasionally during the day if i have to pee really bad or have been sitting or standing for a long time my back will hurt in that same spot. The only relief is to walk. Does anyone else have this and does anyone know of a good website that gives pictures of where your sciatic nerve is so I can see if that is where my pain is occuring?

First, I'm not a physician. But it does seem likely that it's your sciatic nerve that's the problem. The condition you're experiencing is called Sciatica.

According to Spine-Health.com one or more of the following sensations may occur as a result of sciatica:

* Pain in the rear or leg that is worse when sitting

* Burning or tingling down the leg

* Weakness, numbness or difficulty moving the leg or foot

* A constant pain on one side of the rear

* A shooting pain that makes it difficult to stand up

* Low back pain may be present along with the leg pain, but usually the low back pain is less severe than the leg pain

The fact that you're pregnant is also a good indicator that the sciatic nerve is what's causing your discomfort as it's not uncommon in pregnant women.

Of course, to be safe, you should ask your physician.

Very less chances that the sciatic nerve be involved.
Even if it be, that is NOT the cause of your backpain.
If the sciatic nerve is involved, you will have pain in back of thigh, and below knee,NOT in back.

More than likely, that's what it is. I had the same thing with my second baby, I used to get cramps in my right buttock, and sometimes it would also go numb. It will probably go away when you deliver. As you say, it helps to walk, and also ask your doctor. A heating pad will probably help also. As far as the pain in your hips goes, that's probably due to hormones loosening your pelvic joints to get you ready for childbirth. There are stretching exercises you can do that really help both of these problems - again, ask your doctor or ask when you go to your childbirth prep. classes. Congratulations and good luck!

This doesn't sound like sciatica, because there the pain goes down in to the leg. It could be your posture putting pressure on the core muscles around the spine. I used to get that until my gym gave me some excercises to do, it was especially bad if I had been standing. As always, best thing is to mention it to the doc.

This site give you some sciatica info, though.

I have that. It use to only hurt when I was pregnant, but with my last labor I had back labor, and it bothers me all the time. I am now almost 6 weeks pregnant and it hurts me even more now. I dont know how to make it stop, but I would also like to know what to do to make it stop. The doctors have not told me anything and this is my fourth pregnancy, third baby, one was a miscarriage.
