like some basketball players are popular at my school and others are not and it is the sam for other sports to.

Just being an athlete won't make someone popular. There was a boy at my school who was very unpopular and got picked on all the time. He joined the wrestling team thinking being on one of the school's teams would change everybody's image of him, but it didn't work. BUT, after a few months he was in much better shape, had a lot of confidence, and then he did become more popular.

It not only depends on your performance on the court or field...one would also have to have an excellent personality, be easy to get along with, maybe even funny....
