a computer drive is commonly called a disk with the k while the audio and video medium is usually called a disc with the c.

Disk, as in diskette, means a square computer disk.

Disk is the word you are used to which means something round and flat, often in the context of data storage, hard disk, floppy disk etc.

Disc was part of the term 'Compact Disc' coined by Phillips for their new digital audio format in the late 70s. Phillips were eventually part of the group of companies that developed DVD, so disc is used for them too.

The difference in spelling is due to one being spelt the American way and one the British way.

As computers were predominantly American initialy, the American spelling was used
