It should give you the option to select the start up mode when the PC is rebooted.

Otherwise, windows XP contains a system restore option, under "Programs/Accessories/Program Tools/"

This will allow you to restore back to a specific point before the time you downloaded the updates. Take note... XP only allocates some space to this so it may not be possible to get a specific date

1) Run ccleaner to clean system junk
http://bestofrest.blogspot.com/2006/11/ccleaner.html
following steps apply to winxp
2) click on start > run. Type msconfig. press ok. Click on BOOT.INI. See if the box that says /SAFEBOOT is checked. Uncheck it. Press apply. press close. Press restart. The computer will restart. Upon restart it will display a window, check the box in it and press ok to close it.
3) restore your computer to an earlier date using system restore tool in start > all programs > accessories > System Tools > System Restore
