lol, no I have never felt like I was going to push the baby out, but I know it hurt really bad to go. Here are some hints I used! Get some fiber supplements (chewable or the stuff that dissolves in any liquid) and it will help alot! DO NOT USE a laxitive, it contains stimulants and could induce labor. Also, regular foods high in fiber too (a lot of whole wheat breads, pastas, some green veggies, flax seed) and STAY HYDRATED. Drink a lot of water (at least 8 glasses) and also other juices like apple (they are known to sometimes cause loose BM's which would help lol). It would help me out a lot! Especially after a couple days of just very small BM's and I would start to feel sick. Plus it helps with the pain! Good Luck!
It's not rude, especially not on a pregnancy chat board! We feel your pain!

It sounds like you should try taking some over the counter stool softeners. If it's a big issue, or it's been a while since your last bowel movement, you may want to call your OB/GYN and ask him/her for a prescription stool softeners. Why are you on the iron tablets? Are you anemic? Low labs? Your physician may choose to take you off them if you let them know about your ill side effects, as its very common. Typically if there's not a lab issue, you're just on prenatal vitamins with folic acid. Talk to your doctor or get some over the counter meds for it. Good luck and congrats! Is it a boy or girl??

Iron tablets are constipating, Do not strain in the washroom, try lots of fibre rich vegetables--broccoli etc, eat freshly cut ripe papaya fruit, and prunes kept overnight in cooled boiled water, drink the water too. All of the above help but give gas-it can be embarrassing. Add light olive oil to your diet--in salads etc--it softens the stool and helps it to move. Drink cooled boiled water throughout the day add a bit of ginger, a bit of cayenne and few drops of freshly squeezed lemon juice to enrich blood, add vigour and help to absorb iron. If constipation persists discuss with your health care professional. Good luck and have healthy holidays.

Constipation sucks, but it's a normal part of pregnancy for many women. Fiber is definitely the key. Eat salad. Lots of salad. Take Benefiber. If all else fails, eat some Taco Bell. That will scare the most stubborn poo out of you!

Oh sure, it happens to all of us! Not rude at all. It's the heavy iron content in the pills that causes the problem, but you need it for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. I had to eat prunes, in my opinion the most disgusting things on earth, but they did the trick. You could also ask the doctor if there's a mild stool softener or fiber additive you could try. Make sure you drink your water too. Congratulations and good luck!

Firstly congrats on the bump. My advice would be to drink at least 8 pints of water daily, eat plenty of prunes and go to any pharmacy and get something to help you. There are always qualified pharmacists that can advise you on the safe thing to take. I'm sure you won't push the baby out. That is VERY rare.
Good luck and I wish you and your baby best wishes for the future. Nikki

My doctor had me on Iron when I was pg and prenatals. He told me to take them at different times of the day and that I could take a fiber supplement if I was constipated. Just don't take it at the same time as the iron pill or it won't do any good. Good luck!

Oh god yes. I cannot even take a flinstones vitamin with 80% of your iron intake.
Go back to your doctor and have your blood tested again, and have them redo the amount of iron. You're getting far too much if you're constipated like that.
Also, benefiber with branflakes and any other wet thing, and phillips caplets are awesome for fixing the problem, and helping you avoid it.
AHH! dont eat a banana! They MAKE you constipated! gah!

Yes that is normal feeling. But you can tell if there is a baby on the way out giant head coming out. Try using some stool softeners like colase. That should help. Just don't sit and push to long because you can get hemorrhoid's, if you don't already have them. Congrats.
