not really.
take up engineering and get trinkets that way (goblin jumpercables, etc); when the xpack comes out take up jewelcrafting and make trinkets; or pvp and earn trinkets rather than spending money on the basalisk eye!
Also: You can buy Figurine: Black Pearl Panther at one of the vendors in Theramore (its in limited quantity) for less than 1g. Equip: reduces stealth... and increases attack power by 90 for 15 secs.
(the equip would be wasted on you but the attack power is nice!)

Figurine: Truesilver Crab (at the same vendor in Theramore) on equip increases defense rating by 5...and reduces melee damage taken by 20 for 20 secs (again its under 1g!).
(would be excellent for you at lvl 40!)

Definately not worth it unless you are going to use it frequently in pvp. It could help you temporarily.
