If you lose your checkbook, is there anything to stop someone from simply writing out checks and signing your name to the check to make purchases?

Nothing physically to prevent them from writing one, but you can call the bank and tell them which check numbers were lost, and you will not be responsible for them. You have to call them as soon as you notice it.

Almost no merchant wouldn't ask for ID. If they did get a bad check through they'd probably get caught and the penalties are severe. You probably wouldn't be held liable anyway. No Biggie!

go to the bank and get a new account number, and they will cancel your missing checks.
