Yes, the computer does not run on the house current when it's hooked up through a UPS. It runs from the power (Battery) in the UPS, which in turn is being charged by the house current. Three things you should know about UPS's
One; power surges don't not cause as many computer failures as brown outs. Surge protectors do not save your systems from brown outs. UPS's regulate the power to you system whether a surge or a brown out.
Two; by keeping power fluctuations to an almost zero level the computer may last longer.
Three; the UPS is a great thing and you can buy some for as little as fifty bucks, the cheaper ones don't last as long..........for saftey and system longevity buy the best one you can afford.

Yes, it does a much better job. Better yet, it will step down the voltage if the house supply is too high, or step it up if it is too low.
We have a lot of problems during the summer time, line voltage gets too low on this block. Any PC not on a UPS was going dead at random times. We also get the opposite of that...anything not on a UPS gets fried.
