God I hate lice, they run rampant here in Texas for some reason and my daughters school system is terrible about it.
WHat you have to remember is that lice become resistant to chemicals so hit them hard from the first go round.
Soaking any of the cages and toys in bleach is a good disinfectant, replact any chew sticks with new ones and add fresh bedding. Your rats will probally have lice as well, and this is where the lice eggs will be found you need a product that will kill both the lice and theh eggs in one shot, I would check with a pet store first but the chemicals can also be very dangerous to their lungs, there is a product you can buy at walmart called licefree you put it on and leave it for an hour I would confine each rat seperately and do this, it is a product for humans but it is chemical free and herbal, it comes with a shower cap and a lice comb that would be completley useless for you but buying a cheap flea comb would help.
Good Luck

I would ask your vet about the best product as bleach is too strong for them, no matter how much you rinse it off, the smell will remain(especially in aquariums) and can cause breathing problems in rats. I wouldnt use human lice treatment, even if it is herbal. The dosage is unknown for rats and you could easily kill your rats. What I do when I have a mite outbreak is get some drops from the vets(pet shop stuff is too weak) and use them. I just rinse the cage with hot water and the mites die off as the rats are treated over the course off a month.
I assume you have been to the vets to get your rats treated for the lice.

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT NOT NOT use the lice stuff for humans on your rats!! it CAN kill them!

You need to go to a vet and get a prescription for them, with a daily cleaning of the cage, get rid of any beding like aspen shavings (as pine and cedar are big no no's as they are hard on small animal respirtory systems)
