Ray J says that's an old riddle, so if you have the link of the answer, it's ok too.

5 answers

1) Fill the 5l bottle and pour it into the 3... you have 2 left in the 5

2) Empty the 3l bottle and pour the 2l from the 5 into the 3. It now has room for one more liter in it.

3) Fill the 5 liter bottle and, from it, fill the 3l bottle. This removes one liter from the 5 bottle leaving you with four liters.

This is an OLD riddle that should be in the riddle section. But here we go. Fill the 3 liter pot and dump it into the 5 liter pot. Fill the 3 liter pot again and fill the 5 liter pot to the top. You will have 1 liter left in the 3 liter pot. Dump out the 5 liter pot and then dump the 1 liter you have in the 3 liter pot into the 5 liter pot. Fill the 3 liter pot again and dump it into the 5 liter pot . You will now have 4 liters in the 5 liter pot.

Edit: Old meaning I saw it 40 years ago not an old yahoo Q&A question.

Fill the 3L
Pour from the 3L to the 5L
Fill the 3L again
Fill up the 5L from the 3L (so that's an extra 2 litres, leaving 1 in the 3L)
Empty out the 5L, then pour the remaining litre from the 3L into the 5L.
Fill the 3L and empty into the 5L.
You now have exactly 4 litres in the 5 litre pot

(3L is 3 litre pot, 5L is 5 litre pot)
