Here is a link to an article I read yesterday.
http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/12/18/debutante.murder/index.html?eref=rss_topstories
There are two things that struck me about this. Firstly was the complete and utter lack of respect that these young men showed not only for the legal process that called them to justice, but for decent social norms in general. Secondly was that in spite of the fact that these guys flat out robbed and killed a girl (who's debutante party they attended earlier that evening) there are those who tried to turn it into a racial issue because she was white and they were black.
Could the statistics you cite possibly be because for some undetermined reason a large percentage of minority groups between the ages of 18 and 30 are prone to committing violent crimes that warrant incarceration while the non-minorities (whatever that is) are spending their time getting an education or otherwise working for a living?

It is a crazy thing, and although you don't referrence your stats, I have heard many similar stats. African Americans are by far the highest percentage, per capita, of incarcerated individuals in American. Next is Laotian. I don't know what follows. I think a big part of the problem is the upbringing. Many minorities are taught they are victims of the system and deserve to be given something for free. Instead, they should be taught that maybe their race wasn't always given a good shake, but they have the ability to do whatever they want and get out of the ghetto (or wherever they may be).

I think there is a sad lacking of strong role models for the children in some minorities. They have become disenfranchised and see our government as the cause of all their woes (in many cases, they are probably right).
Our public school system doesn't do a good job of keeping them through graduation.
Education is the key to success in our country, and it is what seems to be missing for these people.
EDIT: I am a criminal defense attorney and do mostly court-appointed work. Although I am the best friend these people will have in the system, many are so anti-State they are their own worst enemies.
EDIT2: You are engaging in funky math, btw. Many of the 40% (assuming that is even true) are in both populations (undeducated and incarcerated).

No. But fatherlessness is a big factor.
When you look at the statistics, the absence of a father in the home is a much, much better predictor for trouble in children and young adults than are race or income.
Intact families mean better adjusted kids.

whats up do you adult adult males understand hashish sativa (marijuana) isn't in basic terms a plant that gets you intense, yet in addition an commercial product? The male plant, hemp, isn't psychoactive like the female plant. in spite of the shown fact that it must be used for just about each and every industry we've at present. shape, pavement, outfits, cleansing soap, plastic, option to gas, and greater. If we've been allowed to enhance all of it throughout usa, it would create greater much less high priced food and gas for anybody. Write your senators approximately legalizing the upward push of commercial hemp in usa to help save tens of millions (consistent with possibility billions) from economic catastrophe.

Because unemployment and poverty breed crime. Take a look at Detroit, Michigan's crime statistics after the huge factories moved to Mexico. They skyrocketed along with the home-eviction rate, mental illness and overall health statistics.
