Typical class: Professor hands out a syllabus on the first day of class outlining the schedule, reading assignments, etc. You have a midterm and final to test you on the material.

Some classes will have attendance, small quizzes, small assignments, and other little things as part of your grade beyond the midterm and final.

While there is lecture, it's highly self-study. Certain types of classes have labs or group projects where you have more interaction with other students. Other classes have small group sections where you are lead by a Teaching Assistant. These small groups allow more hands on teaching.
