My son started sitting on his own at about 5 months...but I know babies who've done this earlier and later. Don't compare! You'll drive yourself nuts! I would say a normal range is between 4-9 months. If you're concerned, definitely talk to your pediatrician but don't worry if your baby is 6 months old and isn't sitting yet.

Most babies will sit up anywhere after the 4th month or so. Once they can hold there head up on their own anything can happen.

It takes six month for a child to sit up on his own. DO NOT make him sit since he has not developed the proper muscle nature for the activity. You could cause injury. Allow his body to adapt naturally.

Both my kids starting sitting up around 6 months. It's a great milestone -- my kids were so much happier once they could sit up and see what was going on.

I think about 6 months is average, however my boy only did it since about 8 months. Don't worry if it's slow! He/she might be advaced in other areas, and will soon enough catch up.
