i'm curious on how they move Ernie, cause his two hands are obviously real hands, but how does the mouth move? and is snuffy a 2 person costume? and how is it the person in big bird's costume moves the bill or blink the eyes?

okay, I actually read something about big birds costume- the person has one hand in the wing and one hand in the head- the other wing has a string attached and moves in opposition to the wing that is controlled by the persons arm- the hand in the head controls the beak and eye movement- a very uncomfortable way to control a puppet.
The other puppets are a mixture of hands in the puppets, marionettes moved by strings , etc. Sometimes it will be more than one person manipulating the puppet- someone underneath with hands in the puppet while someone else manipulates the strings- snuffy is a 2 man operation.

you should be able to google some information on Jim Henson's muppets and get better details of how he worked his magic :)

Ernie doesn't have real hands, they're moved by strings and his mouth is moved by someone's hand. The puppeteer is using one hand for one of the puppets arms AND their other hand to make them "talk". Notice that only one of the puppets arms moves.

Big Bird is the same way. Some guy is actually inside Big Bird making him walk and talk and another guy is moving the strings to make his arms move.

Snuffy is more than likely two people.

Muppeteer's hand is inside Ernie's body, with his mouth being operated by that hand. The muppeteer's other hand controls Ernie's arms, via sticks attacked to them.

Yes, Snuffy is a two-person costume. Big Bird is a one person, similar to Ernie--but with the muppet being worn as a full costume.

I do believe that they have a small person function his hands while there is a wire frame of a head attached to the amin body. the mouth and eyes are programmed to move on their own, to what ever the show is. There you go!

And no ppl, its not magic.
well g'day mate!
