My opinion of the difference between a gang and a cult is anyone can join a cult if you are willing to adopt their beliefs and habits, but a gang has to want you to join.

A cult usually has religion ideology to it. A gang is just a group of thugs who feel some kind of power in a group but are nothing as an individual

A gang gets together for evil reasons to make unjust profit.
A cult is inspired by a man who wants to be worshipped.
Has secret meetings and you cannot leave his cult.
He becomes the object of their worship.
Technically a cult has to have a living human leader.
Who says he has been established by God. God talks only to him. In other words a fantical Relgious leader.

A Gang is a group of individuals who share a common identity and, in current usage, refers to those who engage in criminal activities, whereas a cult is a cohesive group of people devoted to beliefs or practices that the surrounding culture or society considers to be far outside the mainstream, sometimes reaching the point of a taboo.
