To help with the smoke odors in furnitre and on the carpeting, just sprinkle some baking soda over the area and let sit for several hours (up to 6 is recommended for heavier odors). Then just vacuum off.
If you want to make it smell like the carpet deoderizers on the market, you can mix equal amounts of bath salts with the baking soda. (The main ingredient in those deoderizers on the market is baking soda!)

You can also place several shallow bowls in all the rooms (2 or 3 bowls in bigger rooms.) Fill the bowls with either white vinegar OR pure ammonia and let sit. This does definately help absorb most if not all cigarette odors. Let the bowls sit for 12 - 24 hours. Sometimes you can moisten a towel or cloth with the vinegar or ammonia and wave the towel in the air. But the towel works mainly with absorbing fresh smoke.

These tips by the way, definately do work. I have used each one of them.
good luck from an ex-smoker !

First, don't let anyone smoke in it anymore, the odor is hard to mask from nicotine. Then use pinesol to solid floors, and get Arm and Hammer carpet frreshener ( will completely eliminate odor) almost any fragrance you can imagine. sprinkle on caroet and let set for 30 minutes or so, and vacuum up. Also, sprinkle it on your furniture, and vacuum up, if it's fabric, if vinyl, wipe with a damp cloth withh pinesol on it. the odors will be gone before you know it. There are machines you can buy that will take the odor out of the air if you do have a smoker that won't smoke outside, they are very costly. You can purchase them at Walmart.

Smell smoke free? Buy alot of Febreze, wash everything in sight, including the walls, and never smoke inside again. No kidding, I'm a smoker and have been for many years. As long as you continue smoking inside, the smell will linger. It's everywhere, just take a look at your cleaning cloth when you wipe your walls.

first no more smoking in the house
next air it out. i realize it's cold out but, open up all the windows for a few hours and air the place out
spray furniture(only liquid safe), pillows, and carpet with Odoban
wash everything that's washable and add baking soda to each load including towels, rugs, and shower curtain(if it's washable) in the bathroom

We use candle warmers in the livingroom and bedrooms. It helps.
