The square root of a negative number is an imaginary number. Its possible to find but I don't think you would need to know it unless your in a high level math class. I would go with impossible if I were you.

5 is not a perfect square & so its root is not a whole number, square root of 4 is 2 & 9 is 3 , hence square root of 5 will lie between 2 &3, nearer to 2 since 4 is more closer to 5 . now take the desimals like 2.1,2.2,..... & square them , we observe that 2.2 square is nearer to 5 & now try for 2nd decimals with 2.21,2.22,2.23.......... ans is 2.23 now the negative sign is left whose root is written as 'i' meaning imaginary. [ans=2.23i]

It is imposable because negitive five is a negitive number. a square root is finding what two of the same numbers multiply together to equal the product. As you know a negitive times a postive number equals a negitive number (ie:5 x -1) so it is imposable to multiply two negitive numbers(which would give one a positiave number) and give one a negitive number.
