Often when I speak to people I'm aware of how unenthusiastic I sound, usually it's because I find what they want to talk about boring. No matter how hard I try to sound interested I just can't do it! It's ok when it's stuff that I want to talk about but can't just talk about my stuff all day! Any tips?

Hey Spiky! Everyone loves when you show interest in what they are saying! An easy way to do this is to smile and nod. The important thing is just to listen and let them do the talking. Also remember to ask a question or two! That's all it takes! Hope this helps!

I know how you feel. The first thing is to switch off into your private daydream while they blab on. You need to keep looking at them though, and nod and smile frequently. Every ten seconds or so, just exclaim 'Gosh!!!' or 'Coo' or 'Reeeeealy?' with very wide open eyes and an uplift in your tone of voice. Occaisionally go 'M'mmnn yeah' or 'Oh no' and if you are sitting down, rest your chin in your hands while looking intently at (well - through) them.

This always works for me. Good luck, hun.

There's a good book called "How to get your Point Across in 30 seconds or less". Apply these concepts to the way you converse to others and hopefully people will reciprocate.

Otherwise I don't think there's a really good way to fake being interested. Perceptive people will be able to tell you're just being polite. (or ingenuine )

When you speak to people look them in the eye and smile - it shows you are speaking to them and enthusiastic about the topic. If it is a debate and not a cheery topic - look them in the eye and speak firmly to a rhythmic pattern (think a drum beat) it will emphasize the importance of your information. Good Luck!

Try to find some aspect of the conversation that you can be excited about or at least relate to. If you can't, maybe you should hang out with people who have more in common with you.

The key to this is to get people to talk about themselves so you don't have to do all the work. Try to ask leading and pertinant questions, even if you aren't very interested. Sometimes it can lead the conversation to more interesting places. Try:

"So how did you feel about that?"
"What got you started doing that?"
"What was the theme/purpose/mood....?"
"How did you meet?"
"What is/was your favourite thing about...."

People love to talk about themselves. If you can ask them anything to get them going, especially if they are male, you can usually keep them going for ages.

your body language might play a role in the way you present yourslef. if you slouch then you really dont care what you are listening to or doing. if you make an effort in holding your body in a broader way then you might me more inclined to pay attention or at least look like you are. also dont cross your arms, it gives off a negative vibe to the speaker.

In your head play a rap or hip hop beat, anything they say will sound well cool, enjoy.

Smile when you speak, it works for more than phone conversations.
