I'm looking to buy a second hand motorbike, and I'm just a little confused between the different types of bikes. I'm only really looking for something to take on trails, nothing too serious yet, so what is best? What are the actual differences between these bikes, because they all look exactly the same to me?

I'm only very new to riding, so I have very little experience. I'm around 170cm tall and because I am inexperienced, I want a bike that is cheap to buy and cheap to run. It must be very reliable!!! Any recommendations? I was looking at some 125-250cc Yamaha's - are these any good? Will that be enough power?

Moto x and Enduro bikes are the same in that they have 2 wheels! Moto x bikes are generally lighter and up until recently were mainly 2 stroke engines. 2 strokes such as yamahas yz125 & 250 are very quick on the track but not that great for enduro due to the amount of back wheel spin u get, although they still can be used well. In terms of the yz125 & 250 the 125 aint that far behind, on the track u dont have to rip the balls of the 250 as u do on the 125! - 4 Strokes such as the yamaha wr400, Hondas xr range, Suzuki DRZ, ktm exc range are great bike with bags of muscle but much more adaptable and kinder to the rider! i have the drz 400 which is ideal on road and when i wanna take the scenic route again excellent! its been on the track and manages well just bit more hard work due to being slightly heavier. if possible have a taster on a track and at enduro riding, i rode moto x for 15 years and now im a borin fart truntling across the moors loving the enduro scene! which ever u pick u shud get the bug! remember what ever bike u get make sure to get fully kitted out, helmet, boots, goggles u get the idea! last thing id say is just take it steady the bike will only go as fast as your wrist twists the throttle!

According to what I know about bikes, the only difference between the bikes you have mentioned is the way the suspension is set up, depends of what you are wanting to try out.l.My suggestion is if your just learning to ride and want to try a few jumps, then go with any of the 125 trail bikes...I started on a Honda XR175, been such a long time, but it was enough for me..Husband raced Honda's for yrs, and have had 67 bikes, Take this from a rider that no longer rides, start out with just enough power then when you ebcome self confident..get something bigger.

Like the other two mentioned the YZ is built for motocross and and the WR is made for serious trail riding or woods racing. The WR will have a wider ratio transmission, a larger gas tank, larger radiators, small headlight and brake light, and the suspension will be a bit softer but it can handle basically any jumps that the YZ will. Most Hare Scramble races in my area are run at a motocross track and we generally run from 1/3 to 1/2 of the motocross track as part of the loop, and the guys on the WR's, CRF-X's etc. have no problem clearing the huge jumps on the MX section.

if i was a begginer the 125r or the 250f is a good bike to start off with stay away from the 250r or the 400f 450f these bikes are too powerful and can get you hurt which ever you choose make sure that you are comfortable on them ie you sit in the saddle your feet touch the ground not just your toes i wouldnt worry so much about power ie speed so much until you master your riding skills more always rember to ride safe have fun but dont push the envlope to much start off easy hear a helmet and proper riding gear we want you around for a while find something that your really comfortable with remember like HONDA SAYS STUPID HURTS HOPE THIS HELPS

For reliability you should make sure the bike you purchase is a 4 cycle engine
