And, before anyone objects, by 'men' I mean women as well, but as it WAS men who scoured the skies in their search and followed the star over a great distance in the first instance, I kept to 'men' in the question. However, I'm looking for specific comments. (Don't bother with a mere 'yes' or a 'no'.) Were those original wise men really wise? Why (or why not)? In what way can people seek Christ today? Why would that be (or not be) the course of wisdom?

Mae - The Magi sought Christ long before Herod heard of their search. They came from Persia or south Arabia! They came to worship the new king! If God condemned astrologers as you say, why did he send a dream to warn them and, more significantly, why did the Magi OBEY God if they were in the devil's employ?
to_know_wh.. - There's no modern-day star to follow for a second birth of baby Jesus. But the glorified, risen Christ IS the bright morning star of Revelation 22:16. Compare that with Rev. 2:28 and see my question in a fresh light!

The wise men were intellectuals of their time who had knowledge of Astronomy, Astrology and Planetary Configuration. Basically anyone at the time who could read and write was considered wise. Remember at the time that the earth was considered flat and it was believed that the sun revolved around the earth. Anyone with a different idea was considered a heretic and most likely killed or imprisoned. It was Galileo who wrote a book about the planets revolving around the sun and unfortunately spent the rest of his life in prison. Anyone who wants to seek Jesus Christ can just read the bible and pray for Jesus to be with them if that is what they believe. However, not everyone believes in Jesus as being the Son of God or the Savior. Even the Jewish community hasn't accepted that belief. There are over 300 religions in the world some with similar beliefs and some with totally opposing beliefs. Many unfortunately have been the cause of war and untold deaths. Religious beliefs are still today at the base of world conflict. People have since the beginning of time conjured up all forms of ideas that render mankind as a Deity or God while all the time disregarding God. People have turned humans into God by declaring a woman as being the "Mother of God" and declaring that "God is now a Human" and essentially turned the invisible Spiritual Creator of all life into a tangible, visual aspect with the belief that Jesus the man was/is God. From the Romans and the Greeks to the Indians and Natives there have been many gods and idols of worship. From Totem Poles to Crosses and Stars there have been many beliefs. My take is this: "Humanity, it's a Sickness"

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (Proverbs 9:10) Did the wise men/Magi seeking Jesus fear the Lord (YHWY), or was their wisdom of a worldly, secular nature? It is certain that they were Gentiles, not Jews. Why did they want to worship the one born 'King of the Jews'? It is clear from the account in Matthew that God warned them in a dream not to tell Herod where the child was and in that respect, they were certainly wise. They were seeking the baby Jesus, but did they have any understanding of what his Kingdom was? I'm afraid this raises more questions than it answers.
Today wise men and women seek Jesus and they find him in God's word, the Bible. They find him when they pray and ask him into their lives to be their Lord and Saviour. They find him in the small, quiet hours of the night when they bring all their fears and worries before the throne of grace and seek his help. They find him when they try to follow his example. And yes, it is the course of wisdom to seek Christ while he can still be found. His moment is always now. Will you resist, or will you say yes?

The wise men were men who studied the stars- astronomers- as most people know, they followed the North Star to the location of the baby Jesus. They were pagan men- not necessarily travelling in search of God but the truth of life-in the end they did find God (who IS the truth of life) at the end of their journey. They fell at his feet and worshipped when they met the baby Jesus. It was in this discovery and humility, that the "wise" men truly became wise because it was then that they had discovered the truth about the Messiah. Today, people can find Christ by developing a personal relationship with Him.

Yes we do...... Because true wisdom come from God, so therefore to seek out Jesus you must have Godly wisdom. Jesus was the wises man to ever walk the face of the earth and truly wise people are always looking for wisdom. And as we all know they did find the wisdom that they were looking for. We are still looking to the greatest form of wisdom that this world has ever known and that wisdom comes from our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. May God bless and keep you always. : D

I believe that, according to the carol, they were kings of orient so this didn't mean they were wise. So maybe there are some oriental kings out there looking at the skies looking for a star to follow. They could be as thick as shît though!
Or maybe they are just trying to light a rubber cigar?

I think that alot of people are seeking christ but maybe not in a literate way.I think that very religious people try to lead their lives like Jesus did and therefore are trying to find him in their hearts. however, i think to seek him in the way you mean, ei. by following the star, is only possible if Jesus is born again, something which i dont think has happened again since. but i may be mistaken,

The three wise men is part of a "parable" story. This means, they really didn't exist. The writer of the story was speaking metaphorically. He/she was saying it is wise to seek the meaning and purpose of life. People do that today through education and reading and discussion. Some folks volunteer for the Peace Corps and spread wisdom to third world countries.

They were astrologers and the bible condems astrology.
Daniel 4:7 Satan used these men to locate the Jesus to get Herod to kill him.
Then and angel warmed them not to go back to Herod because Satan was using them to find the Christ child.
There is many false religions today who are also looking for the messiah to come and he has in fact already came and they did not recognize him. John says that God leads thos whom he wants to to see the truth.
They want to believe the lie. They look for a religon that says what they want to hear and condon anything they want to do.
NOt a search for truth.
