Here are two resources that could help you out. The first is the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) which provides some of the following:

Parts of the Occupational Definition
How to Find an Occupational Title and Code
Occupational Categories, Divisions, and Groups

The second is the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH). Here's what the website says:

For hundreds of different types of jobs—such as teacher, lawyer, and nurse—the Occupational Outlook Handbook tells you:

the training and education needed
earnings
expected job prospects
what workers do on the job
working conditions

It's amazing the number and different titles out there for similar jobs. These are good resources to check out.

The best site that lists all possible career choices with detailed description of each including educational attainment and training required is the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook http://www.bls.gov/oco/home.htm

The Handbook also provides job search tips, and links to information about the job market in each State. They also have an A-to-Z listings of all possible career choices http://www.bls.gov/search/ooh.asp?ct=OOH
