It is due to dry air in the home...you can resolve this by misting with water every other day...just cut the brown tips off with clean scissors.

If a potted plant most likely culprit is overwatering. This is a sign of roots being suffocated. If in ground can be uneven watering or stress.

what kind of plant is it? it could be a desiease, overwatering or you could be getting too much water on the leafe arias turning black whear they shouldent have water contacting that part of the plant at all. would be best to tell us what kind of plant it is so a better answear can be provided to you.
