In about 1 in a thousand human births, the baby is born with the equipment of both sexes. Almost always, the baby is surgically altered shortly after birth, to make them female. Usually the incident is hushed up. Often the "girl" needs to be treated with hormones so that she can mature sexually, and usually she has a sense that something is wrong. Usually there is physical evidence, scars in the genital area, and external genitilia that don't look right since they were created by surgery rather than by nature. Since it's a fairly common birth "defect", far more common, say, than Down Syndrome which is 1 in 2500 births, there are a lot of people out there with this in their history. Think about it, you've probably met someone with Down Syndrome, maybe several people. Since there are statistically 5 people born intersexed for every two born with Down Syndrome, you've probably met a few intersexed people also, although it's not nearly as easy to see.

Recently people like this are coming out and banding together, and demanding that surgiccal alteration of intersexed newborns be stopped. It's not a 'defect', just a human variation, like being lefthanded or redhaired. We need to learn to accept all kinds of people as people, instead of trying to force everyone into a mold.

If you'd like to meet a hermaphodite, I suggest that you be respectful of that person as a person and refer to that person in the terms that they prefer. The tone of your question sounds like you'd like to meet that person for sex or curiosity; I'd suggest that you drop that tone and relate to the person as a human being. It's natural for humans to be curious about each other, and about all the variations that humanity can take on, but please be respectful and kind.

I doubt you'd find them in the LGBT catagory. Simply because they were BORN with both male and female genitalia does NOT make them Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual or Transgendered.

They're a completely different group altogether.
