There is no need to lie, actually.

If the post you seek requires you to "play down" some aspects of your past responsibilites - just don't emphaize them.

Lie no, embelish Yes. Most companies when asked for a reference on a current or former employee won't give anything more than dates of employment and job title. They won't risk getting sued. Most Managers and Supervisors are instructed to direct any inquiries to HR. Since you want to put your self in the best possible postion to get the job or a 2nd interview you can enhance your role or job performance. However a good interviewer will sniff out inconsistencies. If you make something up it will come back to bite you in the ***. If you just enhance what you've already done, welcome to job offer city. poulation YOU!

Lying is never a good thing. I think it's worse to be caught in a lie then being denied a job due to lack of experience.

personally, i think is ok to distort the truth a little. however, you got to be smart when you lie, that's is, there are certain things you can lie, and some you cant, like software knowledge. this is a realistic world, you got to fight for what you want, even though in the meanest way!

Getting caught will most likely get you fired, in the event that they don't catch it until after you're hired. Don't lie. It will come back to bite you.

You can lie a little, but always remember, if they hire you and then want to fire you for some reason, this would be a reason to fire you.
