It sounds like your going to be doing trail riding. So, I would suggest a tight fit for your saddle, you may need to tighten it up after a bit depending on how long you ride. I always pick their hooves before I go out so I know there is nothing bothering them. If your a beginning rider don't go alone, it is not wise especially if something happened to you or your horse. I'm not familiar with the area your talking about, but if it is hilly, lean back going down hills and forward when going up, this will help your horse keep their balance and adjust for your added weight. Remember to relax, but be observant, sometimes the spook at the dumbest things. Don't let them run back toward your barn, if you let them do this, they will think it is okay the next time you want to go and will could have a hard time breaking them of the bad habit. When you get back to your barn/trailer, give them a chance to cool down, drink some water, and relax before you reload them back into a trailer. If it is a little chilly out and your trailer has open slots that air flows through when driving, you may want to blanket the horses or cover those holes, as they could get sick from the cold on their hot bodies. Other than that, have fun enjoying the outdoors with your horse.

Make sure the saddle is on the horse good. You should be able to fit two fingers in the strap but no more than that. My mom fell off a horse once because the saddle was too loose. And be sure to clean their hooves at least once a day and remove any stones you find. Otherwise they can go lame.

the best tip i can give you is to work for other people. you should not have a horse without knowing what your doing. i got my first stable job when i was 5 and bought my first horse when i was 10. i've been taking caring of other people's horses for over 30 years and 9 of my 12 horses were rescues from abusive or neglectful homes. the neglected horses were simply because people didn't know what they needed to do to care for their horses properly. they didn't know how to clean the stalls, how much they should feed, vet care, or shoeing. please try to find a stable you can work or help out in. even as a volunteer you can gain all kinds of knowledge and insight. just by watching and asking.

tips about what? You need to be more specific in your questions. What type of riding? how to take care? I have owned horses since I was 10, and can answer most questions, but only if they are specific.

My best friends has horses. SHe taught me some stuff, like when you're riding them it's good to keep looseand not beso stiff because thats a good way to lose your balance and fallof the horse. Another thing is that you need to keep calm when you're aorund them and/or ridding them. Because horses get startled very easily. It's also god to stroke their neck every once in awhile to let them know you're not going to hurt them. I love horses, they all have their own personality.
