i will be working or doing something on the computer and if i am in a window or game or even checking mail and i try to close the window or even if the computer is setting idle often my computer just shuts down and restarts on its own without warning.what can i do to resolve this problem.

you should see if the fan behind the computers power supply, and a fan above the processor inside the computer box are functioning. It happens due to overheating of components.

I have had the same problem on two computers and the problems were not virus related. The problems were intermittent and occurred even after erasing the hard drive with a drive washer program and reloading. One was resolved by replacing the power supply. The other computer required a new motherboard.

If you've already determined it's not overheating and the memory sticks are good: Click Start, then open Control Panel Click Performance and Maintenance Click System Click on the Advanced Tab Click Settings in the Startup and Recovery section Uncheck Automatically Restart in the System failure section

The most common reason is CPU overheating due to a build-up of dirt, dust, pet hair etc. that is clogging the cooling fan(s).

you probably have a virus in your computer. you can go to best buy and have the geek squad take a look at it. you may have downloaded some websites that could have harmed your computer.
