If it is a public school, forget Christmas message. It has to be a winter holiday message, emphasizing that there are different holidays in this season for different religions. Or just say "seasons greetings" or "happy holidays," in the generic sense, and let it go at that.
But if I were you, I'd write them a Happy Holiday message that included all the holidays specifically, telling a little about the history and traditions of each. Put them in order of their frequency in your class. Christians are probably the most numerous, followed by Jews, possibly Muslims, and very possibly pagans (that holiday is Yule; you make have to look it up in wikipedia). I do not know if the Muslims have a winter holiday, but again, wikipedia certainly does.

we've always known Christmas as the time for giving, a time of sharing,, make this an oppotunity for you to let them know the essence of benevolence --- that, we should help not because somebody else is in need of help but because it is our virtue to offer a hand.
and benevolence should not cease when Christmas season ends --- rather, it should only be the beginning..
good luck..
and merry Christmas..
