I don't know, lately I've been watching a lot of environmentally concious animes. Like today, I finally watched Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. What struct me most was the part about the Ohmu wanting to protect the underground trees that were sucking up all the toxins and making pure sand for growing non-toxic stuff and how society kept on trying to kill the Ohmu which just caused the Ohmu to destroy them and more toxins to grow on the Ohmu's remains. I just finished taking an intro course Earth and Ocean Sciences last term and everything's fresh in my mind, so found it really similar to the way things are right now. I mean the purpose of plants and trees is to take in carbon dioxide and then fall to the ground in the fall and bury the carbon dioxide deep underground. This decreases the greenhouse effect and global warming. Yet, our society is desperately digging up fossil fuel faster and burning it up faster than nature can bury it. Aren't we just destructing ourselves like the people in the movie? Anyhooz, that was long and I'm sure that was the message the author was trying to get accross, but it still struck me anyways. Also yesterday when I was the last few eps of Mushishi (instead of studying for my English exam -.-') and he kept on saying how the Mushi were innocent and didn't have any intent to do harm, they were just living their lives and doing what they do. It's the same for dangerous animals like sharks and bears too. It's not like their after us, they're just living.
