It depends on your own taste to some extent. I've always had a soft spot for FFVI, it was the first one in the series that I played (though now I've gone through all of them), and that's probably my all-time favorite.
As far as movies go - well, if you mean in the theater, there's only been one, The Spirits Within. It was alright, I wasn't hugely impressed with it.
If you mean cut-scenes within the games, well, the most impressive ones are going to be in the most recent ones - FFX, FFX-2, and FFXII. Though I always rather liked the ballroom scene in FFVIII. ;)

Xenogears had the best story of any Square game...
Best Final Fantasy story wise? Final Fantasy VI will always be the best due to it's characters. Kefka is still the coolest bad guy of all time...

Depends on your taste. I've played a couple and out of the ones I've played VI is perhaps the best and most memorable. X was good because of its you could say tragic ending. XII is great but it sometimes seems a bit like a history lesson. The ones I mentioned are the more fantasy themed games. If you are looking for more of a sci-fi theme look at VII and VIII.

All of them have interesting story lines, it just depends on how you like your stories. I would say FF7 has a great story, and it has a tie in movie FF7 Advent Children. FF6 has got a real good story throughout too. I think it comes down to choice. Every game kinda follows the same story line, but the stories are all original and unique to the characters involved in each game. I like the FF8 story too. If you want my personal opinion, I would say FF7.

properly, Squre Enix felt it had to make modifications and streamline the expericence for terribly final delusion XIII, probable because of the fact western builders, mutually with Bioware, have been making extra suitable RPG video games like Mass result and Dragon Age. besides, you could consistently wish for as against XIII, every time, or if, that recreation comes out
