Question: Holidays Blues?

Question Details: I have a couple of friends who have fallen victim to the Holiday Blues. Despite my attempts to generally cheer them up, I don't seem to have been very successful. We are all single, with family away. I know this is extremely common with Christmas and New Year around the corner. I love the holidays, and I know that all the parties can be depressing when mostly everyone has a date. I'm looking for a few good cheer up suggestions that I haven't thought of yet. And, for those of you who look for something derrogatory to say, neither my friends or I are social misfits, we are just normal, everyday single women and men, who for the most part have a very active, satisfying life, and happen to be single.

Merry Christmas to everyone!

Have a night together that has nothing to do with the holidays if that's what is depressing everyone. Enforce a no-date policy if everyone's single. Have everyone help prepare a big meal (or chip-in for delivery), and watch your favorite movies.

Otherwise, if you're friends would be interested in having a holiday party, host one for them! Even a New Year party would be fun. You can even play cheesy games, or write down resolutions you vow not to keep. Play games that you enjoyed playing when you were children.

Enjoy and celebrate your strong friendships with each other, and let your friends know that you value them.

Hello,

I am single and alone most holidays which is a big bummer. Perhaps, you and your friends can gang up and throw a party for each other. Don't stress about getting everything perfect, just enjoy each others company! If one or more of you enjoys baking, go for it and cook a turkey, make it a community project. One person can do dessert, another a side dish, etc. Get a fun game like Scene It or something similar or maybe watch a Christmas favorite like "It's a Wonderful life", "A Christmas Story" etc. Maybe even do an inexpensive gift exchange; make it unique like you have to make it yourself or something. Even though we are away from our families or don't even have families, we can still enjoy the spirit of the Holidays! If you are religious, most churches have some sort of Christmas Eve services too. Well, I hope this helps. Merry Christmas to you too! :)

Hi. I get this, too. For me, it's not even so much missing family, but just the stress of long lines, crappy traffic, bad music, and lack of sunlight (that one being the biggest bummer). there's nothing you can do per se, but just try to go out a lot for dinner and drinks away from Christmasy things. Heck my friends to me to a Caribbean Restaurant for food and dancing one year and I had a blast. Good luck and Merry Christmas.

I like that part at the end about how you explain that your friends are NORMAL everyday people! I say bullshit to that!
If you were ok with everything then you certainly would not be on here asking us ,THE DERROGATORY MISFITS.
I would suggest going to your local swingers club where you will be surprised at how nice and normal those people are too!
Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas - have to admit I am usually a scrooge too; because several of my family members died at Christmas time and I remember them this time of year.

I do try to feel good at Christmas but it's difficult for me.

Cheers to all!

so if your all good friends then you should have your own christmas party. nothing real big. have some eggnog and listen to music and talk about everything old family memories, memories that havent been made yet. who knows, if its snowing, maybe you'll all end up outside making snow angels like you did when you were younger, if you had snow..
