I like Charles Dickens' writing, but I've only ever read a few of his novels. Which one do you think is the best?

I read an abridged version of Great Expectation in high school, looks like I should dig up a full version. I loved David Copperfield too. Thanks everyone.

Bleak House. And no, I didn't pick this because it was on Masterpiece Theater.

I have always found Dickens quite boring and long drawn, but Bleak House was intriguing to me as a child.

There are a lot...David Copperfield, Oliver Twist, A Tale of Two Cities, etc. However, I think the best is probably Great Expectations.

Great Expectations is less rambling than his other novels, and although some of the lesser characters in those other novels are quite memorable, Great Expectations does an excellent job of delineating the character growth of its main character, Pip, which is not true of Dickens' other novels. David Lean's movie version is not particularly stylistically appropriate for this particular work, but it is a very fine film.

I find Charles Dickens a bit difficult to get through because of the langauge and period setting, but I really enjoyed Oliver Twist. Maybe I found it easier to read because I had seen the musical... I don't know, but I loved the story of poor Oliver, who was an innocent with a good soul despite his circumstances. Great book.

He is my favorite writer. David Copperfield is considered as the best of his literary works.

According to most of the critics it is Dickens's own story so you can imagine how great he should have written it.

To echo many of the other answers - go with Great Expectations. It's great and Miss Havisham is a creepy character that stands the test of time.
