In computers, data is stored as a sequence of bits using the binary numeric system. A bit is a binary digit. It can hold either the value 0 or 1. A sequence of eight bits is called a 'byte'. 1024 bytes make up a 'kilobyte'. A 'megabyte' is a sequence of 1024 such kilobytes.
