Here's the situation...I only have 1 home phone number, and currently ave a wireless dsl router, to which I have hooked a desktop, via an ethernet line, I also have this, my laptop connected via wi-fi. I dont want to have to spend $100 to connect my Xbox 360 via wi-fi. I wanted to know if I can just add another dsl modem downstairs where the xbox is...Anyone ever done this??? Thanks in advance.

So I'm assuming that you don't have RJ-45 Jacks in the back of that Router that could feed a cable down there to the Xbox?

If you do, thats the best way to go. It would be a serious waste of money over time to have a second DSL modem (because I'm pretty sure that they will charge you more than $100 for the second unit).

No, you can only have one DSL modem per phone line. To use a second DSL modem you'd need to add another phone line for it and pay for the line and the second DSL account.

You don't need anything else if your X-Box has a wireless NIC already in it. Read your docs for how to set this up. If your X-Box isn't wireless capable, you can get a wireless bridge to connect to its ethernet port or run an ethernet cable from your router to the X-Box

Yes, but why? If modem has wireless capabilities, use them. You could either use the modem downstairs with XBOX and use wireless card or adapter for desktop. Not expensive at all. Or you could get another dsl router for downstairs.

Your DSL provider's servers have to accept the second modem's ID on their network.

To do this you must call them & give them the serial number of the unit. They will have you pay a second monthly fee because the second modem will be using bandwidth independant of your present one.

I would just spend the $100 one time fee rather than pay each month for a second modem.

specific yet you could would desire to have a router that would cope with 2 gateways and proportion the traces accurately. that's used lots of circumstances as a hotspare the place the cable could be generic and the dsl secondary, yet you're observing a intense-end router costing you probable approximately 1k or extra. while you're utilising multple desktops, purchase 2 routers, setup a million/2 to apply the cable modem and different would desire to apply the DSL line in case you % to flow the extra low-fee approach.
