She has written many novels, in a variety of styles. Unless you are interested in her science fiction novels, probably the best to read is "The Golden Notebook" which is a classic contemporary novel, which addresses her realist, psychological, political and feminist strains. I'm far from having read allher books, but this is really good.

If you are interested in her early work about Africa, the collection "The Grass is SInging" is good.

This long review of much of her recent work will tell her more about some of her wilder, science-fiction/mystical work:

The only book of hers I read was Memoirs of a Survivor and I remember liking it even though is was rather grim. I do remember liking the family dynamic and the cat dog.

Call me weird but I kind of like post apocalyptic novels.

Guess I need to dust it off and read it again.
