Did Theo E. not pay any attention when Drew played for the Cardinals? Drew never played hurt at all, if the guy got a hang nail, he would sit out the game. Not as bad a move as the Ruth trade, but the Red Sox could have spent the money a little wiser.

The deal for Drew has not been signed yet. There were thought to have previously been "language" issues in the contract; however, his first physical in Boston had sent up some red flags over his shoulder. He had shoulder surgery a couple years ago and now the Sox want him to undergo a 2nd physical. The player's union may become involved now as well. If the Sox do not sign him, they could still resign Trot to a one year deal for 1/3d the price of Drew and they already have Willy Mo Pena.

The Red Sox like throwing money around for no real reason, making JD Drew, a player who has always made a lot of money for no real reason, a perfect fit for the Red Sox. Drew is just a god awful person to have on your baseball team, especially a team that already has enough drama with Ramirez.

I suspect the silence speaks volumes. Drew was supposed to have his second medical opinion yesterday but there has been no news released so far regarding it. Perhaps the Red Sox are having second thoughts. Or perhaps the doctors who are examining his shoulder still can't find a heart.

Drew has been disliked by the fans wherever he has played. There is a great posting on YouTube about fan reactions from different cities regarding Drew. His St. Louis manager Tony LaRussa ripped Drew in his book as an example of what is wrong with a certain kind of modern baseball player who doesn't live up to his potential. The Dodgers players reportedly called him "Nancy" Drew behind his back and LA sportsradio reported that the Dodgers players celebrated when he opted out of his contract. Even before he opted out, Dodgers fans on their message board were discussing how to trade or get rid of Drew and hoping he would opt out.

While the Dodgers did not file tampering charges, half of the general managers from other teams believed that Theo Epstein did tamper with Drew which led to his opting out of his contract. Most of the general managers who were polled also said that he did the Dodgers a favor by getting Drew to leave. Whether the Red Sox tampered or not, this is still not a positive series of events. Also, the baseball commissioner's office has made it's opinion known on certain issues to teams without making a public annoucement. It is even possible that they spoke to Theo Epstein about signing Drew.

Or now that Boston has signed Matsuzaka for over $100 million and did not trade Manny Ramirez's big contract, they are having second thoughts about spending that much on Drew when he has had only one season of 100 RBI. Polls showed 80% of Red Sox fans polled do not want them to sign Drew.

If the Red Sox end up not signing Drew or for less money than was guarenteed by the Dodgers, it will be a kind of justice. Good things happen to good people.

I am not a Red Sox fan but I am a fan of baseball. Even though I consider the Yankees the Evil Empire, I loved how then White Sox catcher Carlton Fisk berated then Yankee Deion Sanders at home plate for showboating and not respecting the Yankee pinstripes. As a Dodgers fan, I still feel horrible for former Dodger outfielder Bill Buckner who deserved better. The Red Sox are one of those top class historical teams, and any team against the Yankees is a favorite.

Drew is not a bad player. In this current market, his stats probably justify an outrageous contract. He probably will be an offensive and defensive upgrade over Trot Nixon. As a business move for a team with an unlimited payroll, Drew might be a good addition to the Red Sox.

As a fan, I root for guys like Nixon and Schilling even though they don't play for my team, just for the way they play. However, even though the Red Sox aren't my team, just as how Fisk berated Deion about living up to the Yankee pinstripes, I will feel the same way in my gut seeing Drew play for the Red Sox.

Boston is getting a 2nd opinion on Drew's shoulder since it sent a cause of concern to the Sox

Shut up, people. Drew is not a bad player.
He's supposedly almost signed, but at the physical, someone uncovered some potential shoulder problems stemming from a surgery he had. Epsein is just waiting to find out whether or not they'll be anything detrimental.

Boston overpaid for him... Oh and this year he'll remember that he is JD Drew and will promptly miss 70-80 games this season

He's having a second opinion on his shoulder... I think the Sox are having a little buyer's remorse.
