(Im not trying to upset you christians, but you dont know how much it hurts us to see all our traditions and culture slowly get taken away and changed and get no credit for anything)

Yes, christmas is pagan. I am a Christian and I know that. People just don't want the truth, dear. The Catholics started it to make the people happy. Christ WAS NOT born on Dec. 25th so it is NOT His birthday we are celebrating. He was probably born in September. Another thing, the wise men were Not at the manger. Merry Christmas everybody

Personally, I don't care if the Christians borrow some of the pagan traditions. I just get upset when the Christians insist upon dumping their Christ mythology on top of my pagan holiday.

But , you know, a lot of people don't know the history of Christmas. Christmas existed long before Christ was supposedly born. The Roman Emperor (and I forget who it was) who was alive around that time, was trying to unite everyone under one government and religion. So he chose Christianity to be the "one and only approved religion". Actually, he thought he was picking the "sun" god , not the "son of god". Anyway, in order to keep everyone happy, he told the people they could continue to celebrate their pagan holidays, BUT they had to include the birth of Christ. Down thru the centuries , things have gotten a little confusing.

But celebrate which ever one you want or whatever part of which ever one you like. Just don't impose your traditions on any one else. And we will all be merry!

Sigh - the traditions weren't taken away at all. Pagans as a whole were not forbidden Yule, christmas trees, holly, mistletoe, etc and so forth just because the the church adopted and adapted things.

Lots of things have been adopted and adapted, yet you don't hear about the inventors of say, the wheel whining about it - nor would they have. In fact, EVERYTHING gets changed and adapted throughout time. Just a fact of life and society.

Why is it SUCH a hardship for some who call themselves pagan to share the bounty that is historical and spiritiual and cultural, just because credit was not given? Just because maybe you don't fully agree with how they adapted it?

Are you that selfish? Doesn't that go against the teachings of many pagan belief sets? Are you clear on what your belief set or sets are and what they mean?

I guess I'm just tired of the double-standard pagans who claim hardship and persecution, but persist on being nasty to those of belief sets not their own. And who truly have NEVER felt persecution theselves. You want persecution? Be burned out of your home because of your belief. Be jailed, have your family tortured, your small children raped and killed, hell kill your children because some fake comes to town and convinces you that all your hardships are because your newborn infant is practicing witchcraft. This is ongoing news, folks, in several parts of the world.

Someone taking offense at your pentacle, or calling you a name, or -gasp- calling you on your attitude on the internet is NOT persecution. I myself hope to never have to feel it - some things can be learned about without first hand experience.

And yes, I AM pagan for lack of better term, since it's a blanket term anyway, and I have been the vast majority of my life. But I've learned in the the entent of it that used in a different way does NOT mean stolen, nor is it meant to give offense. Those who find offense find it in a great many things in life, and that's an awful hard way to live life, don't you think?

Um....I just saw a show on the History channel about the history of Christmas and in no way is it a Pagen holiday. Yes it did begin to be celebrated when the Pagen religion came along but in no way did it come from that specific religion.

The Christmas Tree came from the Germans I believe and the English began to use these at the Christmas holiday and decorating them. St. Nick came from one country called Finland. So on and so on! It really is a mixture of different religions(Christians).

It is a Christian holiday that is celebrated every year, whether or not it is when Jesus was born on that exact date, as Jesus' birth. As I recall, the Pagens celebrate it as more of a festival type holiday and such. Nothing of the Christmas holiday came from the Pagen religion.

America has taken many different things from other countries and made it into the Christmas we all know today but none came from the Pagens.

Constantine merged pagan and early christian beliefs into The Holy Roman Church. All christian denominations came afterward.

The christians hate this and will undoubtably thumbs down the bejesus out of me for pointing this out yet again.

I am not feeling you. Be more specific. Who and what is being "Christianized" slowly? What traditions and "culture" are you talking about? You leave me wondering. AND who is "they"?

Nice try, but Christmas was never a pagan holiday.

It's true that it originally appeared around the same time of year as a pagan religious feast -- but proximity on the calendar does not, by itself, mean that it's a pagan holiday.
