All of the antivirus softwares I've tried always clog up my computer and make it 10x slower in processing. What is the best antivirus software out there that gets the job done without slowing down the computer to snail speed and is a good price?

I had PC cillin on my computer for a while, and I recently uninstalled it because of how slow it made my computer.

AVG is free and does not really slow system down, even during scan. I am assuming that the real issue is not lack of memory and processor speed in your system. AVG works well for home use.

Pop-up blocker and antivirus are normally separate programs, it's usually just the commercial suites like McAfee, Norton or Kaspersky that have "the works". I'm not aware of any free antivirus software that is as reliable as the top of the line commercial products, so if you're a high risk user (downloading tons of stuff, clicking on every pop-up that doesn't get blocked, etc.), it might not be enough for you. If you do settle for a free solution (AVG, Avast, whatever), I'd highly recommend to periodically use the online Pandasoft Activescan for extra safety - it's got a far higher detection rate than any local free antivirus solution I'm aware of. There is one drawback though - Activescan is IE only.

After a lot of time spent as a betatester for antivirus companies, i have come to the following conclusion:
-AVG free edition and Avira AntiVir are free programs, but as stated before not necessarily the best. Avira AntiVir is the better one.
-The best available antivirus programs would be Kaspersky-Antivirus, BitDefender and McAfee. Of these, BitDefender has the best price/quality ratio, but it can slow down your machine if it isn't good (you will feel a difference under 3000 Mhz and 1 GB of RAM). Kaspersky scans faster, has the fastest response of all programs, but costs a tad more than BitDefender. (you can contact me for a Kaspersky X-mas offer). McAfee is a good program, but not worth its price.
-Norton antivirus : this is not an antivirus, this is a virus in itself... cripples the computer, gives fake warnings and does not detect the real threats. Avoid this!
Other above average performers would be: Panda, F-secure, PC Cillin.

Personally, I like AOL AntiVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.
In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

Keep in Mind that you get what you pay for, a lot of free downloads are loaded with hidden cookies and trackers and who knows what else, your best bet is to buy a reputible av software package and download it into your syatem, I would recomend the McAfee internet security suite, it is not too expensive and is proven time and again to work.
