Why are we trying to fix Iraq so we can just give it back? Why don't we keep it?

If we as Americans are going to spend all the money and lives to take over Iraq for whatever reason should it not then be ours? What happened to the motto “to the victor go the spoils”? Why do we now feel the need to fix the country and give it back to them? I think that if we are going to take it and fix it then it is ours. Would that not serve as more of a deterrent for other countries who we might have issues with in the future.

We honestly don't need the hassle. You cant drive from the states to Iraq. It costs to keep up. It's got a people that don't need us playing in their back yard..Would you like to vacation there?
Would you go to Baghdad and open a car dealership?
Do you think you could really run a business in the midst of car bombs and rpgs?
I say we Ebay off all those gold plated AK47s and divide it up between us the brits and our other allies then cut the purse strings. Meet up in Canada and have some cold beers.
The Iraqi people can handle their own neighborhood. They are used to hot days and bad neighbors.

We don't want to keep it because they have found out the oil it produces is not enough to pay for itself. Bush was under the mistaken idea (he has lots of these) that the oil Iraq produces would pay for restoration of the country and keep it afloat but it doesn't and now it's just too dangerous for our military and civilians to stay there and it is costing us too much money.
