Big hair, Heavy accessories, loud make up, and unflattering designs that never complimented the body were all a common factors of the style of the 80's in my opinion! hehe But style totally depended on what your interests were in the 80's!

The whole punk/new wave look was hot with people who wanted that rebelious look. Most of them wore alot of black, leather, or synthetic materials. They shopped at vintage stores made their own outfits, made their hair as outrageous as possible, wore heavy eyeliner, and had alot of heavy accesscories like bangles, necklaces. Alot of the looks were inspired from the 1950's and some 60's.

Conservative and Preps wore alot of pastels and day glow (neons) as well as all white outfits. V-neck sweaters, suits with thin ties, and Polo's were huge with men. Women loved their power suits with big shoulder pads, big hair, big jewelry pieces, and heavy make up was also popular with preps. Pants sat on the waist and were high rise in comparisons to the ones we wear today. Some had pleats on the waist, with tapering at the ankles.

I still wear Retro NIKE sneakers, but the whole 80's thing was *REALLY* big (2 years ago) in NYC. It's died down a bit, but I still see a few 80's babies (people that dress like it's the 80's, and even have the cell phones from that time period). I don't see them as much as I did in the beginning. The 90's may be coming, I have a friend that's been dressing like he's in the 90's for a minute (we call him Bishop as in Bishop from Juice) and he's still waiting for the 90's fashion to make a comeback. I was never really into the 80's baby thing (I had some Cazal glasses and vintage kicks, but the Cazal glasses retired).

I was the girl who wore "slouch" socks(I can't believe I am telling this story). I would wear up to 3 pairs at once. All different colors.
On a preppier note, I had this one outfit- white k-swiss sneakers with white ocean pacific shorts and an yellow izod polo. I also remember Coca Cola clothing.

Guys wore the white blazers and tropical flourescent tight tee shirts like in Miami Vice. Guys wore the tight bomber jackets and rolled up jeans. Girls copied Madonna with the leg warmers, headbands, boxy leather jackets, and ripped up jeand and leggings!
