It's been a week now and he has not eaten any thing.
I have Betta pellet food, freeze dried blood worms, and Wardley's essential tropical fish flakes.
He is not eating any of this, what do I do?

I don't know if he was eating at the store, but he is very chipper, seems to be a happy fish, always respondes when someone is near him.

I wondered if the water may be to cold, it's about 65 in the house - I'm giving him to my brother, his place is much warmer.

He is in an over sized brandy glass, I uses bottles spring water.

Yes - then I'll will move him upstairs till Christmas (the giving day, he is a gift fish). I cut some bamboo for him that we have growing down the street and I'll let my brother deside on what kind of containment he wants to get for the long run.
I did print him some info from the www.aquaria.info web site - Thanks!

Ok, thanks for the extra information.

I'd say it's because it is too cold. Betta are warm water fish and will do much better at 75-80 degrees.

Also in general I don't recommend keeping any fish in a bowl or glass. All fish really require a filter and betta's require a heater to have a healthy life. If you can look into getting a 5 gallon tank or larger with a small heater and filter. Your fish will be happier and will be more active and colorful.

He doesn't sound sick or else he wouldn't be so active. If the temp in your house is 65 degrees, then the water is even colder. The warmer the water is, the faster the fish will metabolize their food, which will make them hungry all the time. If the water is cold (which yours is) their metabolism slows down and they will not eat as much. I reccommend putting him near a lamp or heat vent to keep the water a little warmer, then try feeding him frozen bloodworms instead of freeze dried. Most fish love these and can't resist them! Also, add a plant called Anacharis to the container to provide oxygen and b/c he will eat this plant, too, so you can be sure he is getting enough food/variety. Good luck.

I also have a Betta fish (male) and I feed him something called "Betta Bites", made by a company called HBH Pet Products (www.hbhnet.com) and my Betta fish jusy loves these things!! I feed him every two or three days, and have him sitting very close to a window..and it is well below zero outside so the area around the window is cool. Yes, Betta do prefer warmer climates but dont seem to mind it if it is a little on the cooler side. Hope this helps!

I just recently got stuck with some and I am enjoying them lot. The girls at petsmart are helping me a lot and they told me not to worry Bettas are not like other animals that will over eat. Bettas will not eat if they are not hungry. Do you have live plants in with them. They will eat the live plant and not be hungry for the pellets. Mine actually seem to like the pellets verses the worms. The flakes seem to be reall messy and dirty the bowls a lot faster.

I use to have a beta fish. He didn't like the pallets. Then i went out and bought Flakes for beta fish and he started eating that. Try getting that and I guarantee you he'll eat that.

And DONT use bottled water. It's TOO clean for them. That's not good for them. Their use to living in normal water. Use tap water .

He may be ill or stressed. Try doing a water change and add stress coat. Then reintroduce food.

I think he needs warmer conditions. I think it's great that you are willing to give him up to a warmer place.

He might be sick. Look for fuzziness around his fins.

that's not a good sign... give him a couple squirts of the beta solution... if that doesn't work... he's prbably going to die.

no worries... flush and buy another.
