Beth, Joseph was married to Mary by the time Jesus was born. One of the problems with them finding a place to stay in Joseph's home town was that they knew he married Mary 6 months earlier, and she was 9 months pregnant. None of Joseph's family could accept Mary so easily. Joseph only went ahead with the wedding because of a dream / revelation from the angel, Gabriel.

Mary's Boy Child
Long time ago in Bethlehem
So the Holy Nible say
Mary's boy child Jesus Christ
Was born on Christmas day

Hark now hear the angels sing
A new king born today
And man will live forevermore
Because of Christmas day

Trumpets sound and angels sing
Listen what they say
That man will live forevermore
Because of Christmas day

While shepherds watch their flock by night
They see a bright new shining star
Then hear a choir sing
The music seemed to come from afar

Now Joseph and his wife Mary
Come to Bethlehem that night
Then find no place to born the child
Not a single room was in sight

Hark now hear the angels sing
A new king born today
And man will live forevermore
Because of Christmas day

Trumpets sound and angels sing
Listen what they say
That man will live forevermore
Because of Christmas day

By and by they find a little nook
In a stable all forlorn
And in a manger cold and dark
Mary's little boy was born

A Strange Way to Save the World... Title may not be exactly right, but google those lyrics. It's the story of Joseph and the birth of Christ. Perhaps more a contemporary Christian title than a "carol", but you'll only hear it at Christmastime.

Here's what I found in my piano carols book:

Joseph Dear, Oh, Joseph Mine (Lullaby)

Joseph Dear, Oh, Joseph MNine
Help me lull the Babe Devine
God in Heaven from above
Has sent His love
The new-born son of Mary

Christmas Comes Anew (verse 3 ... Joseph was there and Mother Mary mild)

That's all I found.

I don't think they were married yet, at the time of the birth. But anyway....there are a few songs out there that don't mention Joseph but are sung as if he were singing them. Not carols. but more contemporary songs. He calls Jesus, my son in them.

"It Wasn't His Child" by Trisha Yearwood (and others may have recorded it as well)
