Yes. And you should follow the 2 month salary guideline. Let him know you care. Diamonds are forever.
It sounds just as stupid to mens' ears, too.

What the hell happen to the man asking the woman? No, you should not get a ring because you should not be asking that question. If I were you I would wait, when he grows some balls he will ask.

Do what you think is right but realize that this is a horrible tradition having to buy somebody a ring so they will marry you....... now before girls get all jumpy its not because im a tight wad i buy my fiance gifts all the time nice ones at that but i think the fact that you have to drop ungodly amounts of money on something that she may say no to is a bit absurd........ save that money and use it on the wedding or honeymoon or even jus use it to buy a nicer wedding ring... i got my fiance a simple silver promise ring and i got one for myself..... at first she was mad and i knew she was but when she realized that i was wearing the same one she kind of opened her eyes and realized that a ring should not justify getting married...

well i dont think that it is right for a woman to ask a man to marry her because that has always been the mans job but i mean i guess since that person has already asked then they might as well

No, because the woman should not ask the man. He is obviously not ready or he would ask himself!
