If you mean to ask why people keep answering that the meaning of life is "42," it's because they have read "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," by Douglas Adams. In that, supposedly mouse-like creatures create a computer, Deep Thought, to answer the ultimate question of "life, the universe, and everything." The computer tells them it will take 1000 (?) years. When they finally come back for the answer, he tells them it's 42. When they get angry, he counters with, "You didn't state what the question was." So they have Earth designed to find out what the Ultimate Question is, but it's destroyed before they find out. When Earth Mach 2 is created, the two main characters decide to find out the question by randomly drawing Scrabble tiles out of a bag. So what is the Ultimate Question? "What is 6 times 7?"

According to the late great Douglas Adams, author of Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, it's the Ultimate Answer:
"Some time ago a group of hyper-intelligent pan dimensional beings decided to finally answer the great question of Life, The Universe and Everything.
To this end they built an incredibly powerful computer, Deep Thought. After the great computer programme had run (a very quick seven and a half million years) the answer was announced.
The Ultimate answer to Life, the Universe and Everything is...
(You're not going to like it...)
Is...
42
Which suggests that what you really need to know is 'What was the Question?'. "

42 is the answer to the great big question of life, the universe and everything. However no one knew what the question was although many think it is simply: What is 6 x 7.
One theory on the theory is that knowing the answer is not as important as asking the question and indeed asking the question is more important even if you never find the answer.
From the genial mind of Douglas Adams.

in douglas andams' hichiker guide to the galaxy, the world biggest computer was created to find the anwer t life the universe and everything. After millenia of thought it came up with the answer 42.
Then an even bigger computer (the earth) was created to think of the question.
Unfprtuanately the earth was demolished to build a bypass through the galaxy just before it had finished computing the 'question'
Just a cult thing really

Not having a clue is OK, Douglas Adams also stated that nobody can know the answer to the ultimate question to "Life, the Universe, and Everything", and the question at the same time. Therefore, since you do not really know the answer, you may very well know the question, which makes you a very special person. And since you are a very special person, I will teach you the secret of flight. All you have to do is throw yourself at the ground... and miss.
