Other than pregnancy, period abnormalities can be due to many things including stress, weight gain/loss, thyroid, hormonal imbalance, infection, illness, medications, polyp, cyst, amongst other reasons. The only way to know for sure exactly what is going on is to see your doctor for an exam and testing. If there's a chance you could be pregnant, your best bet is to see your doctor for a blood pregnancy test as this is the most accurate way of testing.

I had this very same issue about 10 years ago. Throughout my life, my periods were never regular. I finally went to the doctor and I was put on a birth control pill to regulate my periods and it really helped to be regular. They gave me samples until they found which pill was right for me. Hope this helps, but really the only thing to do is ask your doctor to see what is going to help you.

I'm a nurse. The best way to find out what is going on with you would be a pap and other related tests. The doctor could then give you a reason for your symptoms. This could be a serious matter, sesk the advice of a doctor.

Periods are so strange. I know people who start out with irregular periods that's when their doctor puts them on birth control.
Discuss this matter with your doctor and go over your options.
